We All Bleed by Sneha Purohit

Sneha Purohit, a budding photographer and Banasthali Vidyapith, Jaipur alumna, stumbled upon an article about the experiences of bleeding trans-men. Moved by their pain and challenges, she adopted this theme for her photography project, “Mens-Truation.” Her goal was to amplify trans-men’s voices, increase awareness, and foster understanding of their physical and emotional journeys.

Her project revolved around capturing potent and intimate portraits of transmasculine individuals who had suffered surgical complications leading to urinary bleeding. The central concept was to nurture empathy, educate, and dispel societal misconceptions by shedding light on the experiences of those who have confronted such challenges. The emotion captured in her frames is undeniably impactful, highlighting their strength, resilience, and identity while acknowledging their complexities and vulnerabilities.

Through visual storytelling, the project empowers and contributes to a more inclusive society. Its core objective is to humanize experiences, nurturing compassion and understanding. Sneha showcased the project in government-led campaigns, exhibited at Bikaner House, Delhi, and the Pehchaan campaign in Bangalore, Delhi, and Mumbai.

The photographs truly resonate with deep meanings of empathy, respect, and ethical understanding. As she puts it, “We each bleed uniquely, and we must honor one another’s struggles and bleeding.”
