Shraddha Pandey is a talented and promising textile designer with her exceptional interest in the art of Batik. After successfully completing her graduation from Lucknow University, Pandey is currently pursuing her master’s degree in textile design at Banasthali Vidyapith.

Batik is a kind of resist printing done on natural, silk, and chiffon fabric other than cotton fabric traditionally. The evolution of batik is limited to the use of synthetic dyes so far. However, Shraddha Pandey’s innovative spirit has led her to explore new horizons by experimenting with different fabrics such as denim, silk, jute, bleached wool, wool, satin, and chiffon. Unlike conventional Batik practices, Pandey has gone a step further by utilizing natural dyes derived from sandalwood, sappanwood, indigo, and kesula. This exploration has unlocked a diverse spectrum of colors and effects that are specific to each fabric, resulting in distinct and captivating visual experiences. One of the standout features of Pandey’s work is her use of Naphthol dye, which is applied after careful pre-treatment of the fabric. This process ensures vibrant and enduring colors that resist fading over time, while also allowing for an exquisite interplay of light and shadow on the textured surfaces.
