Streetlight By Nidhi Bhavsar
Perceiving the extraordinary in the ordinary, Nidhi’s graduation collection showcases the enchanting dance of light and shadow in everyday spaces.
Nidhi Bhavsar is a graduate of Swarrnim Startup & Innovation University, Gandhinagar and is currently pursuing her post-graduation in fashion design from Banasthali Vidyapith. Her graduating collection’s theme “Streetlight” is the description of perceiving the world through a creative and imaginative lens. The theme centers on the interplay of light and shadow in the everyday environment, transforming mundane objects and spaces into sources of inspiration and wonder. The essence of this theme lies in the ability to find art and intrigue in the ordinary, and to translate those perceptions into personal expression.
In the setting of the kitchen, the utensil rack becomes a canvas for an unexpected spectacle. The arrangement of utensils, when illuminated by light, takes on the form of a human face in the resulting shadow. This occurrence illustrates how light can transcend mere functionality and evoke a sense of whimsy and curiosity. The bedroom, likewise, becomes a realm of transient enchantment. The shadow cast by the blanket morphs into various shapes, from a cat or a snake to the suggestion of a slumbering figure. This unpredictable transformation of the familiar speaks to the theme’s premise of seeing the familiar in new and imaginative ways.
The decision to draw inspiration from the street light introduces the concept of using light sources intentionally to create captivating and dynamic shadow play. Just as the utensil rack and blanket shadows captivate the imagination, the broader environment can be seen as a stage for artistic exploration. By manipulating the interplay between light and shadow, the individual embarks on a journey of self-expression and creative interpretation.
In essence, this theme encourages a heightened awareness of the beauty that can be found in the everyday world. It urges individuals to harness their innate creativity and reinterpret their surroundings through a lens of wonder, ultimately blurring the lines between reality and imagination. By taking the ordinary and transforming it into the extraordinary, the theme “Exploring Shadows: An Inspired Perspective” prompts a celebration of artistry, playfulness, and the magic that can be discovered in the interplay of light and shadow.
