Philadelphia Insurance Companies Gives 400 Kids a Step Towards a Brighter Future
A shoe giveaway was hosted with Shoes That Fit and the LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park. This was the first of two giveaways made possible through a $100,000 donation by Philadelphia Insurance Companies to Shoes That Fit.
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 23, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Kids can’t enjoy typical childhood experiences without proper shoes. With footwear prices increasing, it can be challenging for low-income families to keep up with how quickly their kids outgrow shoes and need a new pair.
Philadelphia Insurance Companies (PHLY), one of the largest writers of nonprofit insurance in the country, made a $100,000 donation to Shoes That Fit, a nonprofit that provides new athletic shoes to underserved children. The two organizations partnered with Dignity Health Sports Park’s ASCSC Community Foundation and the LA Galaxy Foundation to deliver new Adidas shoes to 400 children in need during a Halloween event at Galaxy Park on Friday, October 20. LA Galaxy players and Cozmo, the Galaxy’s mascot, were on hand to help PHLY employees distribute shoes to the local youth from the Carson, Compton, and greater Los Angeles area.

“One in three children in the United States live in a low-income family, and shoes are one of the most expensive items for families to provide,” said Amy Fass, Executive Director at Shoes That Fit. “When families have to choose between putting food on the table or buying new shoes for school, you can imagine that food wins every time. The simple gift of a pair of shoes can increase a child’s confidence, attendance, and performance at school, and we are so thankful that Philadelphia Insurance and the LA Galaxy are taking the time to make such a positive impact on these kids.”
“The teamwork by Shoes That Fit, LA Galaxy, Dignity Health Sports Park and Philadelphia Insurance Companies is a win for kids in the LA community,” said John Glomb, president and CEO of Philadelphia Insurance Companies. “PHLY is so excited to start our new partnership with Shoes That Fit through this first LA-area giveaway and support our customers and communities nationwide through future shoe giveaways.”
This was the first of two Shoes That Fit giveaways funded by Philadelphia Insurance Companies. The second will take place in 2024 in another community.
